The most important thing you can do to win Your Custody Case
December 9th, 2008 by Ron Jones | Filed under Win Custody. If you want to win your custody case, then finding the right attorney is the most important thing you can do. It’s almost a proverb in the legal community that “the man who chooses to represent himself has a fool for a client.”
Once you find the right lawyer, you’ll want to make sure they are doing the best job they can for you.
While I don’t have any great love for lawyers, in this case I would be inclined to agree with the legal proverb above.
A custody case is one of the most painful, heart wrenching experiences a parent could go through. There is no way you can approach it with anything like a sense of objectivity. However, that is exactly what is needed.
Find the right lawyer! Get opinions from friends, loved ones, people you trust. And if you’re running short on people you trust (not unusual in a custody dispute)…contact the nearest chapter of the bar association.
Remember that you’re interviewing a potential employee.
Remember that the judge is going to be concerned with “the best interests of the child(ren).” So you’re lawyer has to present your case convincingly. Personality, and “fit” are of little concern. You want to win custody right?
The job your lawyer does for you (combined with the job you do) is what will determine whether you win your custody case or not!
Don’t defer to anyone’s expertise until you’ve aggressively checked them out, interviewed them and are absolutely satisified that you’ve done a good job of it.
go to the Custody Library and get a product called “How to Find the Right Attorney to Handle Your Custody Case.” It’s an inexpensive little book that will aid you tremendously in finding the right attorney.
More importantly, it will teach you tactics that will help you get even the best lawyer to do a better job for you.
